Dear Performer

Dear performer
The people pleaser in me
You’ve been a deceiver
The worst kind of friend
And I have catered to your every whisper
You promised me certain success

Goodbye performer
I finally found strength to let you go
You need not show your face here again no no
I’m done comparing
So I don’t need you anymore

Dear performer
The part of me that’s driven by fear
I’ve been your puppet for way too long
And though your lies have been
More than convincing
The truth has been exposed
So I’m movin’ on

I used to think the only way to Heaven
Was to earn it
But now I see God freely gives all His love
Even though I’ll never deserve it

Dear performer
I’m His beloved
And I don’t have to measure up anymore
And I don’t ever have to prove I’m worthy
Cuz after all isn’t that what Jesus died for

So goodbye performer
I finally found the strength to let you go
You need not show your face here again
I’m done comparing
I’m done pretending
And I don’t need you anymore
